Double rifle chambered for the .470 NE cartridge employing Rigby's legendary Rising Bite. The 26” blacked rifled chopper-lump steel barrels with London proofs are fit with a full-length matte file cut rib with extension, express rear sights - 1 lined standing regulated at 100 Yds and 2 lined folding leaves regulated for 200 and 300 Yds, blade front sight and swivel for sling. The top rib is marked "Jno Rigby & Co. 43. Sackville Street. London. (LATE ST JAMES'S ST.)" in old English Script. Top of the right barrel is roll marked "FOR SPECIAL CORDITE CARTRIDGES BULLET 500 GRAINS" while the top of the left barrel is roll marked ""SPECIAL 470 BORE BIG GAME RIFLE". The case color hardened finished sidelock action is engraved with fine English Arabesque scrolls and each lockplate is engraved "Jno Rigby & Co" in Old English script, carved leaf fences and fit with disc set strikers, fire-blued double triggers where the front is trigger blade is checkered and the rear smooth, protected by an engraved trigger guard extending to a bottom strap with the gun's serial number and a non-automatic safety. The engraved top strap has "SAFE" inlaid in gold ahead of the serrated slide safety. The breech face is marked "R & B Patent 1141" (R & B stands for John Rigby and Thomas Bissell) which was patented March 21,1879 for the barrel locking method which we call the rising bite. It is also marked "986" which means that this is the 986th gun built under the R & B patent. Best quality reddish-brown walnut stock with pistol hand grip fit with a horn grip cap, drop points, point pattern checkering with borders and swivel for sling. Similarly checkered splinter fore-end with engraved and checkered lever release that is also engraved "RIGBY'S PATENT". 14-5/16” LOP to a 7/8" Silvers style rubber recoil pad, 11 Lbs. The rifle resides in the maker's oak & leather trunk case.
