A matched pair of 12 gauge sidelock ejector game guns. Both blacked round 28" chopper lump nitro proved steel barrels with 2-3/4" chambers, tapered, smooth, concave game ribs with a steel front beads. Gun number 1 is choked modified and improved modified while gun number 2 is choked improved cylinder and improved modified. Ribs are engraved 'J. PURDEY & SONS. AUDLEY HOUSE. SOUTH AUDLEY STREET. LONDON.' & 'MADE OF SIR JOSEPH WHITWORTH'S FLUID PRESS STEEL'. Ribs near the breeches with '1' and '2' engraved. The case color hardened finished action bodies are adorned with rose bouquets and fine English Arabesque scrolls. The lockplates are engraved "J. PURDEY & SONS". The bottom of the action body is engraved 'J. PURDEY & SONS LONDON'. Blacked engraved top levers with '1' and '2' with both sides of the thumb pieces checkered and "SAFE" gold-inlaid on top tangs ahead of engraved and checkered slide safeties. The actions are fit with smooth double triggers with the front trigger being articulated protected by engraved trigger guards, cocking indicators, disc-set strikers, gas escapes and non-automatic safeties. Best quality walnut stocks with checkered English straight hand grips, drop points and engraved stock ovals. The straight hand grips are supported by long engraved bottom straps with serial numbers. Splinter fore-ends with matching checkering and Anson style push button releases. The fore-end escutcheons are similarly engraved. Interior metal of fore-ends engraved '1' & '2'. 15-1/8" LOP's to checkered butts. The guns reside in the maker's oak & leather pair case with brass corners.
