12-gauge sidelock game gun with 28-1/2" blacked round nitro proved barrels that are fitted with ejectors, a tapered smooth, concave game rib with doll's head extension, and a missing bead front sight. The barrels are London re-proofed in 1990 and Birmingham 2010. The right barrel is roll-marked "WILLIAM POWELL & SON, 35, CARR'S LANE, BIRMINGHAM.". Proved for 2-1/2" cartridges and choked modified & modified. The trace (more in protected areas) case color hardened finished action body is adorned with rose bouquets and fine English Arabesque scrolls. Both lockplates are engraved "WILLIAM POWELL & SON". Gold-Inlaid "2" on the top lever, rib and fore-end Escutcheon. The action is fitted with blacked and engraved top lever with the left side of the thumbpiece checkered and automatic safety with gold-inlaid "SAFE" ahead of the checkered and engraved safety slide. The double triggers are protected by a scroll engraved trigger guard extending to a scroll engraved long bottom strap with serial number. Best quality walnut stock with straight hand grip, drop points, point pattern checkering with borders, engraved stock oval (P.H. in Shaded Block) and similarly checkered splinter fore-end with Anson style push-button release and engraved escutcheon. 14-3/8" LOP to a 1/4" checkered ebonite buttplate, 6 Lbs. - 6 Oz. The shotgun resides in the maker's single leather case.
