An antique lever action repeating rifle with full length magazine and steel forearm cap. The 28 inch octagonal steel barrel is chambered for the .45-60 WCF cartridge and is built with both a Vernier tang mounted peep and a barrel mounted ladder rear sight with retaing screw and a Beach combination front sight. Top of the barrel is marked "WINCHESTER'S-REPEATING ARMS. NEW HAVEN. CT. / KING'S-IMPROVEMENT-PATENTED-MARCH 29. 1866, OCTOBER 16.1860" and near the receiver "CAL .45 - 60". The frame is built with a screw-fastened late Second Model dust cover with serrated finger guides, brass cartride carrier block is marked "45-60", the lower tang has the rifle's serial number "15997" between the lever latch and tang screw. The smooth walnut stock has a 12-7/8" length of pull to a steel crescent butt plate with sliding brass trap.
